【摘要】

We investigate the long-run impact of historical telegraph contruction on innovation collaboration across locations in mordern times. The empirical results show that the telegraph contruction before 1911 can increase innovation collaborations between firms in different cities by aorund 33% in the 2000s. To control for the endogeneity of telegraph route, we use the distance to the early military telegraph trunk as the instrument variable. This persistent long-run effect of telegraph can be attributed the channels of infrastructure investment and information transmission.
